Run Defense - Showcases the ability to play with good extension but lack of mass and lower body strength lead to soft edges. Made some plays slashing through gaps but too many instances of him not feeling down blocks and getting worked down the line of scrimmage. Too many reps where the ball gets outside of him when he’s the contain player.

Pass Rush - Does not play to his timed athleticism. Reacts late to the snap and it puts him behind from the outset. Most of his success comes when his rushes is more linear. Illustrates a decent amount of variety with his rush moves but timing and execution needs improvement. Lacks flexibility.

Burst - Can be painfully late off the ball, to the point where it could be a coaching point given his timed athleticism. Carries good speed up the arc once he gets going. Has a false step to clean up.

Effort - No concerns here. Banogu is a highly competitive football player that battles on every rep. Has physical exchanges and is never passive. Would like to see a lot more urgency when the ball is snapped and get into attack mode.

Hand Technique - Deploys a good variety of moves but timing and execution must improve for him to clear contact more effectively. Hands stay engaged but he needs to string together moves quicker and more urgently.

Flexibility - Does not have the flexibility needed to corner the edge track and consistently beat offensive tackles around their outside hip. Requires extra steps to turn at the top of the arc and it’s game over for him if his blocker lands a punch when he attempts to corner. Tight when redirecting and working towards the sideline to cut off angles.

Processing - Often appears calculated off the snap. Does well to seek and find inside rush angles that present linear tracks to the quarterback. Has positive reps diagnosing run plays and others where he illustrates a lack of awareness to the blocking scheme and how to maintain his fit.

Play Strength - Contact power and balance is modest despite playing with good leverage and extension. Anchor is inconsistent and he struggles to fight pressure with pressure against offensive tackles. Not a threat to dangerously convert speed to power and compromise the width of the pocket.

Versatility - Has limitations as a 4-3 defensive end against the run but isn’t quite the space player needed to win as a 3-4 outside linebacker. Will need to be a gap slasher and situational rusher to stick.

    BEST TRAIT - Effort

WORST TRAIT - Functional Strength and Flexibility

    RED FLAGS - None

Banogu stacked together two productive seasons for TCU after transferring from Louisiana-Monroe. In the NFL, Banogu is likely a situational defender given his strength, technique and flexibility limitations. Against the run, Banogu is best suited to slash gaps and not be tasked with edge-setting duties. Maximizing his pass rushing upside will require linear rush angles so he’s best utilized in pressure packages where he stunts/attacks from the second level. Carving out a role in sub packages and winning on special teams is critical for a sustained career.
