Coverage - Plenty of experience lining up in man coverage from the slot and serving as a zone defender. Fares well jamming at the line of scrimmage in press. Natural feel for coverage spacing and route anticipation skills are evident in zone.

Tackling - Aggressive tackler that comes in low and physically attacks ball carriers. Lacks length which takes away from his tackle radius and it shows up when trying to make stops outside his frame.

Processing - Astute processor in zone coverage, always alert and anticipates routes to his zone. Quick processor against the run who fires downhill with a rapid trigger. Doesn’t run himself out of plays with poor reads.

Ball Skills - Does his best work breaking forward on the ball. Timing and technique when driving on the football is excellent. Not quite as steady over the shoulder but he gets his head around.

Range - Has adequate range but I wouldn’t task him with duties in single-high looks. Short area quickness working into throwing lanes stands out. Will run alleys as a deep safety and close distances in pursuit.

Physicality - Never passive. Explodes into blockers and ball carriers with a tenacious mindset. Never pulls up in pursuit and is always around the ball. Aggressive with his hands and frame in the contact window.

Play Speed - Diagnoses quickly and is fast to flow. Has the functional athleticism to carry tight ends and bigger slots into space. He isn’t a burner but he can cover ground in pursuit.

Flexibility - Can nitpick some tightness in his transitions but there’s a reason he’s a safety and it’s a minor gripe. Has the agility needed to slip/undercut blocks.

Versatility - Lined up everywhere for Kentucky and his versatility should be tapped into at the next level. Split zones, man from the slot and box duties are well within his realm of capability. May not be the best option in one-high.

    BEST TRAIT - Processing

    WORST TRAIT - Tackling

    RED FLAGS - None

A four-year starter for the Wildcats, Edwards lined up all over the defensive formation for Kentucky. A sound processor, Edwards is functional defending split zones or handling man coverage duties form the slot. His route anticipation and ball skills are stand out strengths. Edwards does have some consistency issues with tackling and playing through contact in pursuit, but his urgency and athleticism are positive traits. At a minimum, Edwards should be a key sub package defender and special teamer but he has the makeup of a starter by Year Two/Three.
